The Thought Behind It
The Cragform Vase is a study in contrast, where raw spontaneity and quiet control meet in fired stone. Each angled slab is carefully aligned to form a sharp, geometric silhouette, only to be overlaid with an untamed skin of iron-rich clay slip. As the slip dries and fires, it shrinks, cracks, and shifts—transforming the surface into a rugged terrain of fissures and texture.
Fired in a gas kiln at 1200°C, the vase bears earthy tones that speak of ash and soil, flame and stillness. Its rhombic mouth adds to its sculptural presence, inviting stems and twigs, but holding its own even when empty. No two forms like this are ever made the same. This one-off piece carries its own singular story – rooted in the clay’s memory, shaped by fire, and completed in stillness.
