The Thought Behind It
In Japanese culture, koi symbolise perseverance, strength, and good fortune. These elegant creatures are known for swimming upstream, representing the pursuit of goals against all odds. Our Noble Koi wall decor captures this spirit of determination in a timeless wooden relief. Each piece begins with carefully selected piece of teak wood, chosen for its grain pattern and natural character. Our master artisan – Somil Singh – then spends hours carefully carving the intricate details of the koi, working with the wood’s natural patterns to create a sense of fluid movement. The circular format represents completeness and harmony, while the relief carving technique adds depth and dimension that shifts with changing light throughout the day.
The Noble Koi’s versatile design makes it suitable for various spaces: as a focal point above a console or sideboard, in a collection of circular wall art pieces, as part of an Asian-inspired décor theme, in a contemporary minimal setting where it adds organic warmth, perfect for living areas, study rooms, or even meditation spaces.
The natural wood tones and circular shape allow it to integrate seamlessly with both traditional and modern interiors, while its carved detail rewards closer inspection.
Our commitment to responsible craftsmanship extends to our choice of materials and production methods. Each Noble Koi is created with respect for both artistic tradition and environmental consciousness.

Of the Artist
Somil Singh makes with a sense of wonder, whether out of curiosity or necessity. For him, working with his hands is not only craft but a way of thinking, a way of uncovering stories hidden in wood, metal, and discarded objects awaiting a second life.
Trained first in electronics and engineering, Somil discovered his true direction in furniture design at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, where he found the joy of shaping material into meaning.
His practice draws on woodworking, whittling, carving, repairing, and recycling as acts of care that lend the old and ordinary a renewed presence. Precision and play sit side by side in his work, influenced equally by the patience of craft and the imaginative energy of anime.
Whether carving wood, sketching prototypes, or exploring digital tools, Somil approaches making as a conversation between material and maker, function and feeling, tradition and possibility.
