Inspired by ancient Northern European motifs, each bell is slab-built and hand-finished in deep black stoneware with fine porcelain slip-trailing. When moved by hand, a ceramic striker within produces a grounded, subtle tone. No two are alike – each is a one-of-a-kind piece with its own markings and proportions. Suspended on a sturdy cotton rope, the Nocturne Bell is designed for both indoor and outdoor stillness. Hang it low, let it rest, or sound it gently – it holds presence without performance.
The Thought Behind It
The Nocturne Bell carries the memory of old rituals in a modern form. Crafted from high-fired black stoneware and decorated with carved textures and porcelain slip-trailing, each bell echoes the language of ancient artefacts. The structure is built by hand from slabs, not thrown on a wheel, allowing for quiet variations in form and surface.
A ceramic striker is suspended inside, designed to chime softly when moved by hand. The bell hangs from a one-metre length of thick cotton rope, knotted and ready to install. These bells are not designed to ring in the wind – they are instruments of stillness, meant to be sounded or admired on your terms.
No two Nocturne Bells are the same. Each piece is one of a kind, with slight differences in height, width, markings, and finish. Their understated presence makes them perfect for contemplative corners, studio walls, shaded verandahs, or garden nooks.
